5 Camping Places near Lancaster County
You don't have to travel far to find some great camping sites. Here are five camping sites that offer everything from seclusion to close proximity to amusement parks.
Knoebels offers a few options for camping near the Knoebels amusement park, which won "Best Food" and "Best Carousel" in last year's Amusement Today's Golden Ticket awards.
Knoebels Park Campground
Just a short walk from the park, offers tent and RV or camper units, as well as cabins. The campground features fire pits, a swimming pool, basketball court and playground.
Lake Glory Campground
A few minutes' drive from the park, but offers a free shuttle service to and from the park. The campground is next to a secluded lake.
Offers a chance to get outdoors, even if you don't want to stay in a tent. Some of the 16 cottages offer themes, such as the Covered Wagon or School House. They all have heating and air conditioning, as well as a grill and fire ring.
Capitol KOA is in Maryland, just outside of Washington D.C., and offers shuttles to and from the nation's capitol so campers don't have to drive to visit. But if you don't want to leave camp, there are plenty of activities right on site. The campground offers planned activities, as well as a whole host of other things to keep you busy, including bike rentals, a dog park, swimming pool and outdoor ping pong and billiards. Accommodations include tent and RV sites, as well as basic and deluxe cabins.
Owens Creek Campground
Owens Creek Campground in Maryland is situated in Catoctin Mountain Park. It boasts of its "rolling hills," ideal for hikers of all experience levels. Campers seeking a peaceful escape will find it. Owens Creek Campground doesn't offer much in terms of recreation, offering instead to surround visitors with nature. Fire circles are available, as well as a trail offering up local history.
Catoctin Wildlife Preserve and Zoo
The Catoctin Wildlife Preserve and Zoo, about 15 minutes from the campground, has camel rides and parakeet feedings.
Springfield Manor Winery and Distillery
Springfield Manor Winery and Distillery, about 20 minutes from the campground, offers music on the weekends and hosts special events throughout the summer.
Catoctin Mountain Orchard
A family-friendly stop is Catoctin Mountain Orchard, less than 15 minutes from camp.
Artillery Ridge Campground
The Artillery Ridge Campground and Gettysburg Horse Park is located in Gettysburg. The campground offers "covered box stalls, open stabling and outside paddocks as well as riding and exercise areas." The campground offers discounted tickets to several attractions, and free tickets for the whole family for one on your first night camping there.
Lehigh River Adventure Campground
The Lehigh River Adventure Campground, located in the Poconos, is for the camper looking for a thrill on (or near) the river. Campers can opt for a day trip that includes biking, rafting and hiking, a paintball and rafting trip and other variations (available here).
